If you haven't heard about the YP-P2 yet, it is definitely time. This is an AWESOME little PMP. It supports audio (mp3/aac), FM radio, video(mp4), pictures (.jpg), and text viewer (.txt). There is also BlueTooth 2.0 support for awesome features like wireless headphones.
Best of all? Samsung is actively creating new functionality for the device, and in the very first release the built in BlueTooth support was extended beyond headphones to allow pairing with cellphones (released Dec 2007) You can use it to talk on your bluetooth cellphone with the built in mic. Also available is file sharing with other bluetooth devices - think pictures from your cellphone, songs off another player, video files, text files.
The second bluewave has brought some great new UI functionalty and GAMES!! The third Bluewave is scheduled for March 2008, only described as "beyond belief", so I can hardly wait to see what comes next!
Did I mention that it looks and sounds great! The picture in the corner? Actual screen shot - not a promotional video. With a 480x272 pixel screen packed into a 3" diagonal, you will not believe how detailed the interface looks, nor how good your movies will look.
I am going to try to gather all the information I can about this device and list it here, so if you have any new tidbits please email (see the contact me page) or send me a MSN message (which you can do with the MSN web messenger icon in the top right of the webpage, even if you don't have an MSN Messenger account!).Â
PS: If anyone starts trying to hack Linux onto the p2, please let me know!Â
Recently, several people have IMed me to tell me about RockBox. After some digging, it seems that there is no active RockBox projects for the YP-P2. Someone gathered some documents together and created a webpage for them on the RockBox Wiki and labelled it YP-P2, but even the Wiki lists the effort as inactive. If the status changes, I will revisit RockBox and its potential merits.
