 Introduction Minimize

If you haven't heard about the YP-P2 yet, it is definitely time.  This is an AWESOME little PMP.  It supports audio (mp3/aac), FM radio, video(mp4), pictures (.jpg), and text viewer (.txt).  There is also BlueTooth 2.0 support for awesome features like wireless headphones.

Best of all?  Samsung is actively creating new functionality for the device, and in the very first release the built in BlueTooth support was extended beyond headphones to allow pairing with cellphones (released Dec 2007) You can use it to talk on your bluetooth cellphone with the built in mic.  Also available is file sharing with other bluetooth devices  - think pictures from your cellphone, songs off another player, video files, text files.

The second bluewave has brought some great new UI functionalty and GAMES!!  The third Bluewave is scheduled for March 2008, only described as "beyond belief", so I can hardly wait to see what comes next!

Did I mention that it looks and sounds great!  The picture in the corner?  Actual screen shot - not a promotional video.  With a 480x272 pixel screen packed into a 3" diagonal, you will not believe how detailed the interface looks, nor how good your movies will look.

I am going to try to gather all the information I can about this device and list it here, so if you have any new tidbits please email (see the contact me page) or send me a MSN message (which you can do with the MSN web messenger icon in the top right of the webpage, even if you don't have an MSN Messenger account!).Â

PS: If anyone starts trying to hack Linux onto the p2, please let me know!Â

Recently, several people have IMed me to tell me about RockBox.  After some digging, it seems that there is no active RockBox projects for the YP-P2.  Someone gathered some documents together and created a webpage for them on the RockBox Wiki and labelled it YP-P2, but even the Wiki lists the effort as inactive.  If the status changes, I will revisit RockBox and its potential merits.

16gb coming to a YP-P2 near you...YP-P2

We've all heard the rumours and hoped they were true - a 16gb YP-P2.  Apparently, it will soon be available to buy.  Hope you have your credit card freshly cleared, because you KNOW you aren't going to be able to resist this one!

(at least until they release a 32gb version - hey, a guy can dream!)

Samsung phone F480 interface - a sign of things to come?Rumour, YP-P2

Samsung has an updated interface for one of its phones.  Normally, I wouldn't say this is related to an MP3 player, but the YP-P2 seems to be a cellphone with out the cellphone.  Not a big surprise, after all - cell phones are one of Samsung's strong suits.  Combine that with the fact that the YP-P2 games are written by a cell phone game provider and you have to wonder, is this a sign of the 3rd bluewave that is "beyond the imagination" we are promised in March? (EDIT: turns out not to be.)

It certainly would be cool to get that widgets dock on the YP-P2.  I can easily see it becoming a full personal organizer to match or even exceed anything available on a cell phone. (and the bluetooth link to any cheap cellphone...)

Games by ZioYP-P2

The games that are available with the 3.07 firmware update were written by a Korean company named ZIO Interactive.  ZIO apparently specializes in BREW and JAVA based games for mobile phones.

The implications are significant.  We may just be able to get access to a wider class of applications in the near future. (personally, I would love to get a suduko game)

Follow the link to ZIO's english site.

YP-P2 Dock Attachment / YS-MC1 - Apparently a fake.Rumour, YP-P2

Rumour going around is that Samsung is preparing us all an interesting add on for YP-P2 - a wifi enabled dock.  I've seen a video and a picture, and until I see it officially released, I remain unconvinced.  The demos all look suspiciously like a dock for another player I can't seem to find in my browser history (I only noticed in passing and failed to make a note of it)

Apparently the people who initially reported the rumour have announced that it is a fake.  Sad news all.

First Bluewave V2.10? Can anyone read Korean?YP-P2

The internation sites all have v2.08 of the first Bluewave firmware update, but it appears that the Korean download site has V2.10 available, which was published January 2, 2008 about 2 weeks after 2.08, but still marked as First Bluewave.  If anyone can read Korean, I would love to hear what the page says about changes to the firmware.

UPDATE: apprently it is the 2.08 update with the the TJ region added to the supported list, so nothing to see here, apparently (at least until someone tells me otherwise!).
